Transport Turboprop UPRT

Duration

3 training days (4 days with a backup day available)

Course Description

The Transport Turboprop UPRT course provides the foundational knowledge for recognizing upset attitudes and recovering from them in a representative turboprop transport category aircraft. Academics focus on fundamental concepts that support student learning.  The unique aspects and challenges of flying transport category aircraft at higher altitudes and how this affects UPRT is specifically covered in this course. Aircraft specific training, flight briefings and debriefings emphasize desired learning outcomes for that flight.  Flight training includes two flights in a King Air.

Each student will:

  • Receive 7 hours of academic training to include
    • Subsonic Aerodynamics
    • Aircraft Limits, Certification criteria and how that fits into upsets
    • Propulsion
    • Stability and Control
    • Digital Flight Controls
    • Energy management and lift vector control
    • Basic maneuver toolbox and recovery techniques
    • High altitude and high speed (near transonic) environment and effects on performance
    • Transonic and supersonic aerodynamics
    • Energy management concepts
    • Transonic and supersonic flying qualities
    • Course wrap-up and debrief
  • Receive approximately 7 hours of aircraft/flight specific ground training, flight briefings and debriefings:
    • Aircraft specific ground training
    • Aircraft specific cockpit familiarization

  • Receive two flights in a King Air of approximately 1 hour each to include:
    • Aircraft and local area familiarization
    • Single engine low speed energy management
    • VMCA Demonstrations:
      • Stall Speed Determination
      • VMCA Static
