The Quality Inspector’s primary responsibilities include inspection, documentation, engineering support, and Part 145 Repair Station operations. Each of these is the major component which leads directly to their overall goal of ensuring the continued airworthiness of NTPS fleet aircraft.
Use your skills and experience to:
Inspection
- Perform detail-oriented physical inspections on fixed and rotary wing airframe and powerplant configurations using manufacturer processes and recommendations.
- Where manufacturer recommendations are not available, utilize best practices and experience to provide practical and conservative determinations on the airworthiness of air vehicles.
- Effectively troubleshoot squawks as provided by flight crews to determine the root cause of an issue by thorough evaluation of a structure, engine, system, or component-based upon knowledge of fundamental aircraft operation.
- Perform specialized non-destructive testing to include borescope techniques and precise dimensional analysis.
Documentation
- Ensure that aircraft logbooks and internal work orders are updated to represent the latest work performed on each aircraft.
- Accurately log time in service, cycles, fatigue life, etc. for a multitude of different aircraft with a diverse set of requirements.
- Update manuals, and maintenance programs for experimental aircraft to be aligned with best industry practices and latest manufacturer ICA revisions.
- Ensures the most up-to-date technical data is utilized for inspection of aircraft, and the aircraft is compliant with the latest FAA Airworthiness Directives.
- Uphold a firm understanding of the FAR’s and how to properly implement them during aircraft maintenance.
Engineering Support
- Provide support for the installation of aircraft modifications to include, but not limited to, flight test instrumentation, research project support hardware, and supporting equipment design and manufacturing.
- Establish instructions for continued airworthiness for permanent installations and modifications added at NTPS.
- Integrate with engineering teams to positively influence the design and overall outcome of internally designed aircraft modifications.
- Work with outside vendors and ensure aircraft airworthiness throughout the lifecycle of flight test support projects, from initial feasibility evaluations to aircraft de-modification.
Part 145 Repair Station
- Establish a Part 145 Repair Station for Pitot-Static and Transponder IFR recertification through the Van Nuys FSDO.
- Upon establishment of the Repair Station Certificate, ensure the certificate is maintained, and uphold the agreed-upon quality program, training program, and documentation structure.
- Evaluate best paths for Part 145 repair station growth to support NTPS programmatic efficiency, overall capabilities of the NTPS maintenance department, and business strategy.
Generalized Aircraft Maintenance
If required, the Quality Inspector may be asked to perform physical maintenance actions on the floor and supporting activities for aircraft maintenance such as parts ordering or tool calibration.
Required Skills and Experience:
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant Licenses with Inspection Authorization required.
- Non-destructive inspection training certificate preferred.
- FAA Pilot Certificate preferred.
- High school Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Associate or higher degree in aviation maintenance or related
- Type-specific training for King Air C90, Eurocopter EC-145, PT-6A, Garrett TPE-331, Allison 250, or other manufacturer-provided training on specific aircraft types preferred.
- 10 years of experience working on experimental and type-certificated aircraft as a licensed A&P mechanic required.
- 4 years (or 2 renewal cycles) of experience as an Inspection Authorization holder required.
- In-depth experience with any of the following: flight test, helicopter-specific operations, jet warbird operations and maintenance, corporate operator aircraft maintenance, experimental aircraft manufacturing and modification preferred.
- Must read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- May be required to communicate aircraft maintenance concepts to untrained or apprentice-like individuals.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Flight Schedule Pro and CAMP desired.
